Option 1
You will need an ordinary telephone, Broadband connection, a Router using an ethernet connection with a spare ethernet port and an Analogue Telephone Adaptor (ATA). This is ideal and with this setup you will be able to make VoIP calls without the need of having a PC on.

Option 2
You will need a SIP phone, Broadband connection and a Router using an ethernet connection with a spare ethernet port. The SIP phone connects directly to the Routers ethernet port. This is also ideal and again with this setup you will be able to make VoIP calls without the need of having a PC on.

Option 3
A USB telephone or headset that will plug directly into your PC, this works in conjunction with sotware that is available Free. This is fine for occasional calls but the PC will need to be switched on for it to work.

Option 4
A Microphone and a PC with speakers, this again works in conjunction with software that is available Free and whilst the telephone will work it is not advisable, the PC will will also need to be switched on.
